The DES Software Engineering System

DES, as part of its defining characteristics, embraces a detailed and carefully specified business and technical process to deliver in a timely and professional manner. Every system developed by DES is broken into six primary phases:

The Exploration Phase: Through DES & client interactions, this phase provides your team and DES with a refined and confirmed understanding of your business and technical needs. From this exploration phase, you will be delivered professional documentation describing all business and technical elements of a proposed technical solution. This phase is critical to the development of your system, for it will allow DES to "learn" your business and it will allow you to understand the functionality and technology behind our solutions.

The Analysis Phase: This phase allows DES to exactly define the requirements of your system ("what" your system does). During this phase, DES will gather your system requirements, both in functionality and in technology. As a deliverable, DES will create a detailed functional specification that will describe a complete featureset, interface, environment, and implementation of your system. This document will stand on its own as blue print for your system.

The Engineering Phase: This phase allows DES to exactly define the mechanism through which your system delivers on the requirements identified in the analysis phase ("how" your system functions). During this phase, DES will identify the most robust, functional, and optimized architectures on top of which your system can be built. As a deliverable, DES will create detailed, and standardized, engineering schematics and design documentation. These schematics and documents will be created for the purpose of immediate hand-off to an implementation, integration, and deployment team.

The Execution Phase: DES will execute on the engineering schematics and design documentation prepared by the engineering phase. Competent and sound engineers, programmers, graphics artists, and other members of the execution team will convert the planned functionality into realized functionality. This phase may also be referred to as an implementation phase. In addition, our technical & non-technical writers will prepare documentation describing all aspects of the system, including maintenance documentation.

The Delivery Phase: This is an interactive process by which you will examine and refine the implementation of your system during an intense testing, debugging, and quality assurance period. At the end of the refining period, your system will be integrated and deployed in its live environment. This delivered system will not be a beta-release, but a production-quality system, refined to your exact needs. Upon the delivery of the technical & non-technical documentation, you will take ownership of your complete, standalone system. Basically, we will deliver a system that will require little additional effort required of DES.

The Maintenance Phase: An ongoing process by which DES will support its delivered system. Extended system refinement & upgrade will be included in this phase. DES embraces long-term, extended client relationships; DES will stand by its clients and projects.
